As a Children's Champion Sponsor in India, you'll help Save the Children to support Coolie families at the bottom of the Indian caste system, ensuring their children have a brighter future.

In Karnataka State, our Children's Champion Sponsors contribute towards village health schemes, income generating loans to very poor households, dry land development and a comprehensive education programme. In a nutshell, they help some of the world's poorest families become self sufficient.

Save the Children has worked with an established local organisation, the Agricultural Development and Training Society (ADATS), since 1997 in Karnataka. Our children's programme, with its strong emphasis on education, health and gender equity in over 200 villages, is transforming the lives of an entire generation of Coolie children.

Education gives children the chance of a better future in Karnataka, where 66% of the population is illiterate. We have set up children's centres (or Balakendras) to provide extra tuition for school children, night classes for children who work during the day and a place for children to socialise and play. Since the balakendras have been operational, Grade 7 pass rates have increased from just 20% to 92% for these children.

Become a Children's Champion!

At just $25 a month, your sponsorship will run for as long as you wish. Once you become a Children's Champion for India, a local volunteer will administer your sponsorship, helping to keep our administration costs to a minimum.

All Children's Champion receive three newsletters a year from Save the Children, keeping you up-to-date with the programme you support and outlining exactly what kind of difference your sponsorship is making to children's lives.
