On Dr Cindy Kiro’s first day in the job, Save the Children New Zealand Executive Director John Bowis says, “ Save the Children welcomes Cindy Kiro to the position of Commissioner for Children.
“Cindy brings a wealth of relevant experience, both practical and academic, to the position. She has very impressive credentials and is highly regarded by people and organisation’s working for children.
“Cindy begins her job at a time when there is increasing awareness of the problems affecting New Zealand children such as poverty, violence and the gap in outcomes for Maori and Pacific Island children.
“I believe that Cindy will be a strong advocate for children and will work effectively with other child-focused organisations and the government to improve the lives of New Zealand children and young people.
“I would like to thank the outgoing Commissioner Roger McClay for championing the rights of children over the last five years and for the work he and his office have achieved."
