Save the Children New Zealand is embarking on a journey with an ambitious strategy for 2025–27, designed to tackle the most pressing challenges facing children.

Our vision is bold: to create positive change for and with children.

Our founder, Eglantyne Jebb, was the first to declare that children have rights. But more than 100 years later, children’s rights for too many children in Aotearoa New Zealand, across the Pacific, and around the world are not being met.

Our strategy sets out our ambitious goals to improve children’s lives and how we will achieve them. At the heart of our 2025-2027 Strategy is a move towards creating transformative change, not only in the lives of the children and communities we work with, but at an organisation level – working in partnership to shift power to communities, children and young people. Through our life-changing international programming, the core of our work, we will grow positive and lasting impact for children by shifting power to local agendas and priorities.

Our 2025-2027 Strategy at a Glance

Save the Children New Zealand’s 2025 – 2027 Strategy is built on a bold vision: to create positive change for and with children. Over the next three years, we will focus on five key pillars of success that will drive meaningful impact and shift power to children, communities, and local actors.

These priorities are:

  • Working in partnership to shift power - Ensuring equitable partnerships that empower local communities, children, and young people.
  • Growing our impact - Expanding our international programmes with a focus on quality, inclusion, and programmatic diversity.
  • Amplifying children’s voices - Creating platforms for children and young people to speak out and advocate for change.
  • Shifting the dial for children in Aotearoa - Embedding a culture of child rights in New Zealand through advocacy, education, and policy influence.
  • Building a sustainable organisation - Strengthening operational effectiveness, financial stability, and staff engagement to ensure long-term success.

To achieve these ambitious goals, we have identified five enablers for change, which underpin our approach:

  • Advocate, campaign, and mobilise - Growing a movement of engaged supporters to push for systematic change.
  • Use digital, data, and evidence - Enhancing decision-making and impact through research and insights.
  • Shift power to children, communities, and local actors - Embedding localisation at the core of our work.
  • Be an inclusive and efficient organisation - Creating a high-performance culture that values equity, diversity, and innovation.
  • Grow and diversify funding - Strengthening financial sustainability by securing new funding sources and partnerships.

Together, these priorities and enablers provide a clear roadmap to ensure more children have their rights met, now and in the future.

Together we can achieve more for children

Nāu te rourou, nāku te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi

With your basket and my basket together, the people will thrive.

Our ambitious goals for change may seem difficult – but we know that together we can reach them. By working hand in hand with tamariki, rangatahi, whānau, teachers, school communities, staff, supporters, partners and governments, we will deliver the change we all need to make a better world for children.
